Recycle Week 2018: Cutting Plastic Pollution and Waste

Recycling Week 2018 aims to raise awareness of the benefits of recycling. This years campaign will focus on cutting plastic waste and stop our environment turning into a Plastic Planet.

Recycle Week 2018: Cutting Plastic Pollution and Waste

Recycle Week is an annual initiative to encourage people to recycle more by demonstrating the positive benefits of recycling. Now in it's 15th year, Recycle Week 2018 runs from 24th - 30th September 2018.

This years' theme is "Recycling. We do. Because it Matters." The campaign will focus on plastic pollution and encourage people to recycle as much plastic as possible. There is so much more awareness around the problems caused by plastic in our environment and Recycle Week 2018 aims to capitalise on this.

Cutting Plastic Waste

An article in Let's Recycle quotes WRAP as saying:

“This year, Blue Planet II motivated people to care about plastics in a way they never have before. Sustainability is now firmly on the national agenda and the public is looking to organisations to help solve major environmental issues. That makes Recycle Week a greater opportunity than ever to change people’s recycling behaviours whilst gaining positive publicity and building your organisation’s reputation.”

Shockingly, 79% of all the plastic ever created in still in our environment. We are becoming a plastic planet but there is still time to turn things around if we act quickly. Consumers can do their bit by increasing recycling rates to ensure plastic waste doesn't end up in the environment

There are many ways to do this. Check out our blog A Lot of Bottle - Recycling Plastic Bottles for some hints & tips.

Sustainable Business

Brands and business can also support Recycle Week. Firstly, by promoting the initiative and helping to spread the word amongst your customers and users.

Secondly, it also means actually taking a good hard look at your own business practices to see where you can improve waste management, recycling rates and reviewing your business practices to ensure they're as eco-friendly as can be.
