An estimated 10 billion free carrier bags are handed out by UK retailers each year (WRAP consulant's report 2007), costing retailers £64-£80 million per year on providing plastic bags to consumers. We want to reduce this impact on our landfills, natural resources and environment overall.
The large supermarkets have introduced 'Bags for Life' and other reusable carrier options in the last few years. We believe it is a matter of time before the public put pressure on the rest of the retail sector to embrace reusable bags and reduce the plastic and paper bag consumption.

what we do – NWPP bags
The products in each category are made primarily from non-woven polypropylene (NWPP) a hard-wearing, non-toxic and recyclable material. Benefits of durability, low cost and vibrancy of both material colours and print make it a suitable alternative when compared with similar materials.
Our core business is polypropylene as we believe this fabric has many benefits that are only just being explored. It is a contemporary alternative to similar materials that leave a large ecological footprint and have past their use by date.
Our products are 100% recyclable and reusable, they have larger capacity to the common vest shaped plastic carrier bag and the material is both water repellent and washable.
Smartbags also allow you to promote yourself – put your logo on a bag.

The versatility of NWPP was demonstrated in August 2004 when Smartbags delivered the first run of NWPP 'Smartcovers' to Toyota Australia.
Smartcover is used to replace the one use plastic car seat covers used by the automotive industry to protect car seats during servicing and repairs. Smartcover is durable, spill resistant, can be wiped down, and looks great.
Since the Smartcover's introduction, Toyota Australia's one-use plastic seat-cover sales have fallen from 30,000 per month to less than 2,000 per month. It has saved Toyota money while reducing the use of disposable plastic alternatives.
